Dear Friends and Family

For the past 10 years, the CDGA Foundation has been conducting its Golf Marathon to raise funds to bring the joy of golf into the lives of individuals with special needs, military veterans and youth. This event has been an integral part of the Foundation’s fund raising efforts, raising over $750,000 during that time. On Saturday, May 18th at Zigfield Troy Golf in Woodbridge, IL, I will be playing 100 holes of golf in support of the many programs of the Chicago District Golf Association Foundation . As a contributor to this organization, I am reaching out to you to help me make 2019 the most successful year yet.

One of the four program areas of the Foundation is a focus on our veterans. Last Fall I had the opportunity to participate in one of the many Blind Veteran golf outings held during the years at Naperville CC.  The vets from the Hines VA Hospital arrived around 9:30 am and I was assigned to one of the vets—his name was Bob. He was a 30 year veteran of the Navy and had about 10% vision. Enough to see light and some shapes.  On the course I learned about Bob, his family and his various jobs and positions in the Navy. He shared stories with me about his golf abilities before his sight diminished. He made a strong point to me that his family was most important and was a great support to him. I lined him up to make shots and I banged on the flagstick to give him an idea of the location of the hole. What a wonderful experience.

After golf, all of the veterans(about 15) and the course volunteers enjoyed a wonderful lunch and we each introduced our vet for the day and they in turn talked about their golf experience. The most touching part of my day was after lunch. Bob asked me if I would take him to the Pro Shop to buy a shirt. On our way to the shop I asked Bob if he had an idea of what type of shirt he wanted. He said to me “you are my eyes for the day, just buy something you think will look good on me.”

This is just one of the many terrific experiences I have had as a Volunteer of the CDGA Foundation. Whether it is helping mental and physically impacted folks through our Sunshine Camps or watching  the eager look of a 10 year old about to play a round of golf on the course they only dreamed about. These are experiences and relationships that only come from my involvement with the Foundation.

Now, I am asking you to help our Foundation make this Golf Marathon a huge success. Please visit my link to make a donation. Every donation, no mater the size, goes a long way toward helping those who might not be able to experience the programs we offer.

Thank you for your investment in the Foundation...

ABOUT 2019 Par 3 100-Hole Golf Marathon

The CDGA Foundation Golf Marathon has been an integral part of the CDGA Foundation’s fundraising efforts, raising over $900,000 in its previous twelve years. Funds raised go directly towards CDGA Foundation programming, which utilizes the game of golf to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs, veterans and youth.

FORMAT

Participating golfers spend the time leading up to the event collecting pledges from family, friends and business associates. The CDGA Foundation provides participants with tools to achieve a $2,500 fundraising goal. Then, on Saturday, May 22 at Zigfield Troy Golf in Woodridge, golfers will play 100 par-3 holes in a fun and quick fashion. Lastly, individuals who reach the $2,500 fundraising goal will be invited to a year-end party featuring golf and two meals at a private country club.
